About the Transcultura Programme
Inspired by the vibrant creative spirit and rich cultural diversity of the Caribbean, UNESCO is promoting the Transcultura Programme: Integrating Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity, a four-year initiative funded by the European Union.
The Programme strengthens capacities and creates opportunities in the Cultural and Creative Industries sector of 17 Caribbean Small Island Developing States, so that young people from Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago, will be able to play a leading role in sharing initiatives, synergies and receiving unique opportunities for professional growth and entrepreneurship.
The Programme is implemented in four components: capacity-building, scholarships and incubator programmes, cultural twinnings and joint actions, and sustainable cultural tourism. Each of these areas work as a whole to create a new paradigm of cultural integration between Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union, and to give the artistic forces in the region new spaces for their growth and dissemination. With culture as a driving force, UNESCO Transcultura seeks to turn the talent, new ideas, knowledge and hopes of young Caribbean artists into a reality.
Art and digital creation, to understand and dream the world!
Digital technologies are everywhere. Indispensable to most of our activities, we fear them as much as we adore them, because they are sometimes beyond our control, almost autonomous.
For several decades now, artists have been seizing on this technological transformation taking place in our lives to propose new imaginaries. By questioning our future, they create a new narrative, and open up the field of creative possible as digital technologies multiply.
To help us decipher reality, they don't hesitate to take a critical look at technologies and revisit traditional art forms. They wonder about the mutations of our environments and question the issues of today's society. Musicians, visual artists, choreographers, video artists : all bring to life the relationships we share with robots, algorithms, sounds, virtual universes and new imaginaries.
In this MOOC produced by the Enghien-les-Bains Arts Centre and the Orange Foundation, you'll get to know dozens of artists using digital technologies. The three central sequences will enable you to explore themes that touch us all. You'll come away more knowledgeable, more aware... and with an insane desire to learn more about these new art forms!
